Pagosa Free Press Mission Statement

The Pagosa Free Press is a fiercely independent newspaper dedicated to seeking the truth through uncompromising journalism. We remain committed to the original mission of the free press in a free society — as a light, exposing corruption, fraud, waste and abuse of power wherever and whenever it is found.

We also seek to provide a free-and-open debate about the great moral and political ideas facing Pagosa Springs and beyond, by providing an unbiased forum for our readers.

Further, we believe that reading a newspaper should be an entertaining experience as well as an educational journey. Therefore, each issue will seek to make our readers laugh, as well as cry.

The History
Rick Baker
The Pagosa Free Press started as a one-issue advertising source for Missy B's Luxury Transportation Services in August of 2007.

When one of the owners of Missy B's, (Rick Baker) approached the 100-year-old community paper, The Pagosa Sun, about running a press release detailing a community service providing drunks a ride home for free, he was rebuffed by the big, bad Editor and told to "talk to the advertising department."

Angered, hurt and saddened, he decided to publish his own little rag sheet to show this editor the way a newspaper is supposed to look.

Unfortunately, community support and advertising revenue have kept the Free Press in business. No longer just a Missy B's ad sheet, the FP grows with each issue and is making a nasty habit of scooping the 5,200 week-old Sun on the issues that really matter to P-Town people.
